Origin Notes and History:

Whitesail River adopted in the 18th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1924, as submitted November 1921 by Frank Swannell, BCLS. Confirmed 11 January 1952. Name changed to Whitesail Reach 1 March 1956 on 93E, following creation of Nechako Reservoir behind the Kenney Dam.

Labelled "Dawson River" on Fr. A.G. Morice's 1907 map, but no local use of that name. Swannell labelled this Whitesail River (in association with Whitesail Lake at its' head) oh his "Sketch Map of River & Lake System", 1921. Length: 8 miles between Whitesail Lake and Sinclair Lake; width: approx 100 feet. Both lakes and original river channel submerged c1954 under Nechako Reservoir.
