The previous official name, Mount Pocahontas, is an inappropriate name for a mountain in British Columbia as it misrepresents and erases local Indigenous cultures by referencing an Indigenous figure from a different region and cultural context. Using the name perpetuates colonial narratives and ignores the significance of local Indigenous languages, histories, and connections to the land (information provided by Tla’amin Nation, 2024).
