"Hunaechin Creek" adopted 1 August 1922 on 92J/4 as likely appears on Reference Map "Powell Lake" (1922) and in OBF 0732. In lieu of original paperwork this name was re-confirmed 31 March 1924 in the 1924 Gazetteer. Official name changed to x̱enichen stulu 21 June 2023 on 92J/4, as requested by shíshálh Nation.

x̱enichen was a major village site at head of lekw’emin (Jervis Inlet) and one of the locations where the spelemulh (first peoples/ancestors) first came from the sky by the Creator. x̱enichen stulu (creek) refers to the creek that flows into the bay at the village site. The name roughly means “go to the end until you can’t go any further” referring to the northern extent of the swiya. The current English name for the SNL (shishalh Nation Lands) and creek use an anglicised version of the shishalh name.
