Bendziny is a Tŝilhqot’in name for this lake and refers to the wider locality around the lake. The name is a proper noun and has been in use for so long that a direct translation to English is difficult. Sometimes referred to as "Bendziny Biny" where "biny" means "lake" in the Tŝilhqot’in language (Advice from Tŝilhqot'in National Government, 2018).
