Adopted 13 March 1947 on 93/SW, as a well-established name. Also Puntzi Creek.

"Puntzee" is a Carrier Indian word meaning "small lake" as reported by Lieutenant H.S. Palmer of the Royal Engineers, who visited the lake in 1862.
