The one-word form "Bellabella" (settlement) was adopted in the 13th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1914. Form of name changed to Bella Bella (settlement) 7 October 1948 on C.3700. Name changed to New Bella Bella (community) in 1974; subsequently changed back to Bella Bella (community).
