Boss Mountain adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, in association with Boss Triangulation Station here. Name changed to "Takomkane Mountain" 1 September 1960 on 93A, the local name according to 1957 advice from R.D. McCaw, BCLS, and as labelled on his 1936 map 93A/2, and on BC map 3G, 1949 & 1957. Further changed to Big Timothy Mountain 2 March 1961 on 93A, to reflect entrenched and preferred local usage. (letters August 1957, file B.1.37, and April 1964, file Q.1.60)

In order to retain the historic name "Boss" that name was applied to a mountain about 12 miles northeast, adjacent to Church Triangulation Station, as labelled on R.D. McCaw's 1936 map 93A/2, file B.1.37: "Boss Mtn was applied to a peak...in order to retain it." (Major E.B.Hart, letter 8 December 1937, file # not cited)
