Origin Notes and History:

Cynthia Island adopted 4 October 1945 on C.377 as recommended by Hydrographic Service, not "Centre Island" as labelled on BC map 2B, 1914, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer (file F.1.34 #3). Name changed to Christie Islet 2 March 1948 (file H.2.45).

To avoid confusion with other "Centre" islands, Hydrographic Service recommended the name be changed to "Cynthia Island" after Union Steamship Company vessel SS Lady Cynthia, frequently in these waters. No explanation in BC files for subsequent change to Christie Islet.
