Nisga'a name is Sganisim Ginsgox, where Sganisim is a derivation of sganist (mountain) meaning "mountain of"; Gin is a derivation of Gwin, meaning "place of"; Sgox means "to transport goods and/or people by canoe or boat a load at a time". The whole territory is generally referred to as Ginsgox.

"We are unable to identify a mountain [here], although we have identified...an alpine ridge, not a high mountain. The Gitanyow name for the alpine ridge which includes Kinskuch Peak is "Gadiit"...and appears in the documentary records [describing the] territories of Gwinuu and Tigewin in 1924 as "Laxgadihlt" (ie. Laxgadiit). Identified as "Kaditt" in Nisga'a oral history. The evidence to support Gitanyow ownership of this area is set out in Tribal Boundaries in the Nass Watershed, Gitxsan Treaty Office, 1995." (Gitxsan Treaty Office, November 1997, file N.1.96)
