Origin Notes and History:
"Pine Creek" adopted 5 May 1947 on 104/NW as a well-established local name, applying to the watercourse flowing from "Surprise Lake" into Atlin Lake, as labelled on BC Lands map of the Atlin Gold Fields, 1899 et seq, and as described in BC Mines Reports, 1895 onwards. Application extended (headwaters portion) 4 October 1951 on 104N, applying to the channel above Koosawu Áa (lake) previously known as "Surprise Lake".
Koosawu.áa Héen made the official name 28 July 2023 on 104N/12, as requested by Taku River Tlingit First Nation. Koosawu.áa Héen is the traditional and ancestral Tlingit name. (advice from Taku River Tlingit, 2016).

1951 field check determined that the source of Pine Creek is above Surprise Lake in the vicinity of 59° 48' - 133° 17''25" on 104N/14; from there the creek flows northeast 3+ miles then turns and flows south 4+ miles into Surprise Lake, thence southeasterly into Atlin Lake. The channel above Surprise Lake had been identified as "Boyd Creek" on early maps.
