Origin Notes and History:

"Pine Creek" adopted 5 May 1947 on 104/NW as a well-established local name, applying to the watercourse flowing from Koosawu Áa (lake) into Atlin Lake, as labelled on BC Lands map of the Atlin Gold Fields, 1899 et seq, and as described in BC Mines Reports, 1895 onwards. Application extended (headwaters portion) 4 October 1951 on 104N, applying to the channel above [Koosawu Áa (lake) previously known as "Surprise Lake"] (file A.1.51). Koosawu.áa Héen made the official name 28 July 2023 on 104N/12, as requested by Taku River Tlingit First Nation. Koosawu.áa Héen is the traditional and ancestral Tlingit name (advice from Taku River Tlingit, 2016).
