Origin Notes and History:

Sandhill Creek adopted 6 November 1934 on Department of National Defense sheet 415d (Ottawa file OBF 1449-2). Name changed to Tetayut Creek 4 September 2008 on 92B/11, as recommended by Tsawout First Nation and Capital Regional District and endorsed by Central Saanich District Municipality (file V.1.38)

The name Sandhill Creek likely originated due to the fact that the creek used to be prime habitat for the Sandhill crane; these cranes are no longer found in the area. (April 2008 advice from Tsawout First Nation, Saanichton)

Identified as "Shady Creek" on some early water licences (licence numbers/dates not cited), and an article about bird-watching by H. Hosford published in Victoria Times-Colonist 27 February 1981.
