Elwyn Creek adopted 24 July 1945 on 104/SE as recommended by BC Geographic Division, not "14 Mile Creek" as labelled on BC Lands' map 5C, 1929. Re-approved 6 May 1954 on 104G.

Recommended by BC Geographic Division to avoid duplication; after T. Elwyn, the government Agent detailed to accompany the Western Union Telegraph Company party in 1866 in their explorations for an overland telegraph route via northern British Columbia & Alaska to the Bering Strait, thence to Asia and Europe.
