"Lizard Mountains" adopted in the 14th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1915, and so-labelled on BC Lands' map 1EM, 1915. Form of name changed to Lizard Range 6 April 1950.

Origin/significance not recorded, but nearby Lizard Creek was an established name by 1898, and the mountains may have acquired their name because of relative proximity.
