Origin Notes and History:

Argenta (Post Office) adopted 3 July 1947 on Columbia River Basin manuscript 12, as a long-established name and as labelled on Geological Survey sheet 19A, 1911, and on BC map 4F, 1913, and as listed in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Identified as Argenta (Post Office & Steamer Landing) in the 1953 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Argenta (community) 15 December 1982 on 82 K/2.

Argenta Post Office opened 1 September 1899 (location not identified); closed 1 August 1902; re-opened 1 December 1914 on Lot 20, subdivision of Lots 8390 & 8391. Named because of the mining activities in the area, "argent" being an old word for the metal silver.
