Origin Notes and History:

Adopted 2 August 1956 on Jasper Park North Sheet, as labelled on 1911 map of Mount Robson area, to accompany report of the Alpine Club of Canada's expedition to that area (Canadian Alpine Journal, vol IV, 1912, p.24&25). Name submitted for use on BC-Alberta Boundary Sheet 31, 1923, and labelled on preliminary black line print of same, but omitted from published map. (file J.1.34)

Named in 1911 by A.O. Wheeler because of the number of hoary marmots (Arctomys Pruinosus) in the area. (Expedition to Jasper Park, Yellowhead Pass and Mount Robson, published in Canadian Alpine Journal, vol IV, 1912, p.24&25).
