Lantzville (Post Office) adopted 2 September 1948 on C.3577. Form of name changed to Lantzville (community) 31 January 1983 on 92F/8. Incorporated as a District Municipality, effective 25 June 2003.

Lantzville Post Office was opened 1 May 1923, closed 30 September 1926; re-opened 3 July 1945.

The community was originally known as "Grant's Mine" and until 1929 that name was used on school photographs; no explanation for the name change. (January 1993 advice from Lantzville Historical Society, file B.1.44)
