First ascent in 1929 by Neal M. Carter and Emmy Milledge (afterwards Mrs. Eric C. Brooks). Named c1930 after John Davidson, FLS, professor of botany, who explored much of the Garibaldi Park area commencing in 1912. Born Scotland 1878; botanical assistant, Aberdeen University for 18 years; provincial botanist, British Columbia, 1911-16; instructor of botany, associate professor and professor, University of British Columbia since 1916; founded UBC Botanical Garden at Essondale, 1912; founded Vancouver Natural History Society c1916; moved to Point Grey 1916.
