Established by Order in Council 2882, 27 February 1972, containing 326,000 acres more or less. Boundary amended per OIC 397, 21 March 1989, to include 96,770 hectares formerly identified as Mount Edziza Recreation Area. Conversion of OIC to Statute designation per Bill 15-2001: Protected Areas of British Columbia Amendment Act, 2001, 11 April 2001; the whole now containing 266,095 ha. more or less. Boundary redescribed per Bill 50-2004: Parks and Protected Areas Statutes Amendment Act, 17 May 2004; the whole still containing approximately 266,095 hectares. Boundary redescribed per Bill 24-2007: Parks and Protected Areas Statutes Amendment Act, 3 May 2007; the whole now containing approximately 266,180 hectares.
