“wančas hiłḥuuʔis” is a Tla-o-qui-aht language name. “wančas” means “flukes of a whale when diving” and “hiłḥuuʔis” means “as far as you can go” and “something below mountain” (information provided by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, 2025).
