Hart Creek adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, as originally submitted in February 1923 by Geological Survey of Canada for use on the preliminary edition of their map of Comox (file C.1.22). Re-approved 4 October 1945 on C.3590 (file H.2.45). Significance not known - possibly referring to an early settler.

Dept of Highways' bridge sign installed mid-1980's identifies this as "Washer Creek"; evidently referring to a long-time local family.
