Origin Notes and History:
|
Warriors Bar named to honour the courage and sacrifice of six Tŝilhqot’in warriors who were wrongfully tried and executed by the colonial government for their act of resistance and war at this site on April 30th, 1864, an event which began the Chilcotin War (advice from Tŝilhqot'in National Government, 2024).

The name Murderers Bar reflected an outdated and derogatory narrative about the 1864 Chilcotin War which painted Tŝilhqot'in warriors as murderers for killing members of an abusive and threatening colonial road crew at this site on April 30th, 1864. The name Warriors Bar reflects a more accurate history of these events, recognising these Tŝilhqot'in as warriors and heroes of their people (advice from Tŝilhqot'in National Government, 2024).
