“Q̓ʷaq̓ʷilis” is the Lik̓ʷala name for this mountain and means “growing from the beach” (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).

This is where the first ancestor, Wekai, tied the community's canoes during the flood, saving Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people from certain death. Other names known for this mountain include: Hay'waektqbatoo ("water never came over the top"), Q̓ʷakanaqula ("kept growing"), and tl'aktsen ("long forehead") (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).
