In 1792 the cape on Quadra Island was home to Island-Comox speaking people who had a fortified village here. After a long Salish-Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ conflict, the region became part of Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ territory and the name for the south end of the island became Kʷak̓ʷala/Lik̓ʷala-ized to “C̓aqʷəlutən” (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).
