“ʔux̌ʷstilis” is the Lik̓ʷala name for this spit and could mean “beach on the back side” and/or “where the land ends” (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).

This has been a home community for Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people for generations. Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ families had several big houses here. “ʔux̌ʷstilis” is surrounded by food-gathering areas, including crabapples, gooseberry, wild strawberries, medicinal plants and fish traps (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).
