Home to Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people for a long time as evidenced through oral history and the presence of heritage sites. The English name, Forward Harbour, is from a gun boat of the British Navy that fired upon multiple First Nations up and down the coast, including the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ community just north of “C̓aqʷəlutən” (Cape Mudge) (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).
