“Tək̓a” is the Lik̓ʷala name for this harbour and means "soil" or "dirt" (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).

“Tək̓a” is the origin place for Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people. This is the home of the first ancestor, Weqaʔi. Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people have lived here for a long time as evidenced by both oral history and the deep heritage written on the land in heritage sites (information provided by Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah, 2024).
