Origin Notes and History:

Chilanko River adopted in the 9th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 1910. Name changed to Tsalhanqox 11 June 2020 on 93B/4 as recommended by the Tŝilhqot'in National Government as this is the Tŝilhqot'in name for this creek and supported by Cariboo Regional District, Rec Sites and Trails BC, and the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium.

Tsalhanqox is the Tŝilhqot’in name for this creek meaning 'river of many beavers' - "Tsa" (beaver), "lhan" (many), "yeqox" (creek/river). 'Chilanko' [former official name] is an anglicization of this name (Advice from Tŝilhqot’in National Government, 2018).
