Origin Notes and History:

"Biny Gwechugh" is the Tŝilhqot’in name for this lake meaning 'big lake along the river' referring the the widening part of Tŝilhqox (Chilko River) at this location, where the flow of the river slows and it becomes lake-like. Another name for this place is 'Canoe Crossing' (Advice from Tsilhqot'in National Government, 2018).
