Wildhorse Creek was the site of the first gold rush in the East Kootenay region. Gold was discovered in 1863 and the town of Fisherville was soon established. It was later torn down to allow mining on the site. After the main gold rush ended, a community of Chinese miners continued to work the area for several years.
