Origin Notes and History:

Established per Order in Council #692, 27 March 1980, containing 220 hectares more or less. Exclusion of DL137 Metchosin Land District (Great Race Rock) per OIC 137, 12 February 2001. Conversion of OIC to Statute designation per Bill 50:2004, Parks and Protected Areas Statutes Amendment Act, 17 May 2004; the whole containing approximately 221.5 hectares (219.5 hectares of marine foreshore and 2 hectares of upland).

ER #97. Purpose for establishing this reserve: To protect intertidal and subtidal communities that are extremely rich as a result of strong tidal currents. Ecological Reserves are areas in British Columbia selected to preserve representative and special natural ecosystems, plant and animal species, features, and phenomena. Ecological Reserves provide the highest level of protection for the maintenance of physical and biological diversity while allowing for research and educational activities.
