Origin Notes and History:

Hankin Peak adopted 24 July 1945 on 104/SE; not "Mount Hankin" as labelled on BC map 5C, Stikine, 1929. Hankin Peak re-approved 6 May 1953 on 104G. Elevation of 8386 feet.

After Tommy Hankin, old time prospector, packer & lineman on the Yukon Telegraph Line, and son of Thomas Hankin, who had the first store & trading post at Hazelton, trading post at Port Essington. Tommy was born at Hazelton, and lived at Telegraph Creek, Iskoot, etc. for many years. (biographical note provided by P.M.Monckton, BCLS, in 1945.) Various other Hankin features in the Cassiar District are named for the father or son.
