In 1957 the nearby glacier was named "Anniversary Glacier" by climbers with the BC Mountaineering Club, to commemorate their club's 50th anniversary (Canadian Alpine Journal, Vol XLI, 1958, p.31); the intent might have been to also propose the name "Anniversary Peak" for this feature, however that name was never submitted to the Geographic Board for consideration, and the peak has since been named Matier Peak.
