Toquart Harbour adopted 3 April 1934 on C326, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 584, 1861 et seq. Form of name changed to Toquart Bay 13 January 1947 on C.3627, as recommended by Hydrographic Service. Spelling changed to Toquaht Bay 1 April 2011, per the provisions of the Maa-nulth Treaty.

"Toquart [sic]: A Nootka tribe on the north shore of Barkley Sound, southwest coast of Vancouver Island. Their septs, according to Boas, are Tokoaath, Maakoath, Wastsanek, Totakamayaath, Tsaktsakoath, Mukchiath, Tushkisath, Kohatsoath, Chenchaath, Metstoasath and Comaath. Their village is Mahcoah. Spelled variously: Toquatux (Grant, 1857); Toquart (Mayne, 1862); Toquaht (Sproat, 1868); Tokwaht (Swan, 1870); Toyn-aht (British Columbia, 1872); To-quh-aht (Canada, 1880); Too-qu-aht (Canada, 1883); Tok'oa'ath (Boas, 1890); Touquahat (Canada, 1910)."
