Named "Evanoff" as recommended 29 February 2000 by Joan Sawicki, Minister of Environment, Lands & Parks; after George Evanoff, member of the Prince George LRMP table and active in a variety of outdoors organizations, who died 24 October 1998 as the result of a grizzly attack while hiking in the McGregor Mountains. "During the last 10 years of his life, George Evanoff actively participated in land use planning in order to advocate protetion for special areas in the Prince George region. He was very influential in the recommendations to establish Kakwa Park and Fang Mountain/Cave Park. He discovered Fang Cave, and led the initial explorations in the early 1970s; it is now recognized as one of the most significant cave systems in Canada. Unanimous resolution from the Prince George LRMP to name the [proposed] Fang Mountain/Cave Park in memory of George Evanoff, supported by 42 outdoors organizations and individuals..."
