Origin Notes and History:

Translation: "notched beach". This name has also been written q!uge's. This is a place of origin, and an ancient village site utilized by the Komkiutis and Nimpkish.

According to Mungo Martin, the name Kokish is corrupted from the Indian word "Gwegis", meaning "place where river spreads"
