Origin Notes and History:

Kakwa Recreation Area established per Order in Council 472, 14 March 1987, containing 127,690 ha. more or less. Conversion of OIC to Statute designation, area extended and status changed to a provincial park, to be known as Kakwa Park, per Bill 8: Park Amendment Act 1999, 28 June 1999, the whole now containing 170, 890 hectares more or less. Boundary redescribed per Bill 49: Protected Areas of British Columbia Amendment Act 2012, 31 May 2012, the whole now containing approximately 171,973 hectares.
