Txaalaxhatkw is really the Chieftain title to the X'anmas territory. This reserve was where "Anjoks Git Iks"/Git Iks' camp site (or fishing station) was located, another of Txaalaxhatkw's camp sites; Git iks became his nickname, owing to a misunderstanding of a question asked of him in English by a surveyor or missionary. He thought he was being asked what village he was from.

Obtained from the Duff files, the name of the area near the mouth of this [river] is Anmaxhli'ul, "where over narrow". It is questionable as to whether the meaning of the name is more correctly "where-over-bear", as the last segment of the word ("ul") appears to be the Nisga'a word for the animal "bear". This could then mean "where the bears come over (the hill...)", or "over (the hill...) where bear (meat) is carried". Or "hlguul"/narrow could simply have been abbreviated. There are a number of cases where the meanings provided appear to be incorrect, and in these instances appears as well that the interpreter, and sometimes Beynon himself, provided the interpretations.
