Small Inlet Park established per Order in Council 589, 30 April 1996, containing 487 ha. Name changed to Small Inlet Marine Park per Bill 29: Park Amendment Act 1997, 23 July 1997, in accordance with naming conventions for marine parks. Boundary extended per Bill 17-2000: Protected Areas of British Columbia Act, 29 June 2000; the whole now containing approximately 710 hectares (542 hectares of upland and 168 hectares of foreshore). Boundary redescribed per Bill 8-2015: Protected Areas of British Columbia Amendment Act, 25 March 2015, the whole now containing approximately 878 hectares (753 hectares of upland and 125 hectares of foreshore).
