Origin Notes and History:

Calamity Point (Point) adopted 14 January 1954 on C.3418, in association with adjacent Marine Hazard beacon of the same name; application altered 5 January 1965 as shown on C.3433, and following development work in Vancouver Harbour which effectively removed the profile of the point. Form of name changed to Calamity Point (Shoal) 9 September 1997, per description in Small Craft Guide, 1989, p.66, and confirmation from Canadian Hydrographic Service about the nature of the feature. Approved by Dept. of Indian and Northern Affairs 7 December 2005, as this feature is within Capilano IR #5.
