Andrew J. Stone hunted in this area in 1896 and 1902 to collect specimens for the American Museum of Natural History. As a result of his hunting expeditions in the Cassiar, two previously unknown sub-species of sheep, the Stone and the Dall, and a species of caribou, the Osborne, were identified. The "new" species were a lure to big game hunters, and the Cassiar outfitters and their Indian guides and packers benefitted economically.
