Origin Notes and History:

Aiyansh (Post Office) adopted in 1930 BC Gazetteer, NOT Ayansh, as spelled on Geological Survey sheet 69A, Route map of part of the Nass River, 1912. Form of name changed to Aiyansh (Settlement) in 1973 Supplement to the BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Aiyansh (Locality) 15 December 1982 on 103 P/3. Name rescinded 26 October 1988.

Following a disastrous fire in the early 1980's, the residents and businesses of Aiyansh relocated to "New Aiyansh" about 3 miles southwest of here.
