Origin Notes and History:

Aero (Post Office) adopted 7 October 1948 on 103SE. Form of name changed to Aero (Steamer Landing) 5 April 1962, then to Aero (Landing) 9 May 1966, then to Aero (Locality) 29 November 1984. Rescinded 16 December 1988 on 103 G/4.

Aero Post Office opened 23 October 1948 on L 44, TL 1717P; closed 15 January 1958. Identified as a passenger stop in USS timetables 1954, 1955, 1957; listed as "Aero Camp" in Northland Navigation Company's timetables 1959 to 1964. By 1965 the logging operation had ceased, the buildings were empty and only a watchman remained on site; the wharf had fallen into disrepair, although fishing boats still tied up to it.
