Formerly the "Big Bend" area of the Columbia River, and named for the former town of Mica Creek, drowned under the pondage. At 800 feet high, this was the highest earth-filled dam outside Russia at the time, and its' underground powerhouse was the second largest in the world when the facility became operational in April 1973.
