Origin Notes and History:

Identified by Galiano and Valdes as a single island, and named by them "Isla Redonda" in 1792, the Spanish word for "round". Redonda Islands adopted 6 April 1950 on 92NW referring to East Redonda Island and West Redonda Island. The collective name Reconda Islands rescinded 2 November 1990 on 92K/2 and 92K/7 - the individual names East Redonda Island and West Redonda Island are sufficient for maps and charts.
