Origin Notes and History:

Purcell Wilderness Conservancy established by Order in Council 4 December 1974 - the first area in British Columbia to be preserved for wilderness recreation purposes, containing 325,000 acres. Status changed to a provincial park, to be known as Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Park, and area added per Bill 53: Park Amendment Act 1995, 13 July 1995, the whole now containing 198,183 ha.
