Origin Notes and History:

Kounugu Lake adopted 2 January 1980 on 104G/7 as submitted by Geological Survey of Canada (L.I. 15 November 1979). Name changed to Little Ball Lake 26 February 1987 to be in accordance with local name for the lake. May also be referred to as Float Plane Lake.

This name is recorded as being rooted in Tahltan stories, after Kounugu who was guardian of fresh water "who slept throughout the day on top of the well flat that contained histreasure."
