Named in 1917 by interprovincial boundary surveyors after His Majesty King George V (1865-1936). The House of Windsor came into being in 1917, when that name was adopted as the British Royal Family's official name by proclamation of King George V, replacing the historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
