Origin Notes and History:

Asman Bay adopted 6 November 1952 on 92 K, in association with Asman Point. Name changed to Big Bay 12 December 1962 to reflect entrenched local usage, and labelled on BC map 2C, 1919 (file B.3.51).

When residents petitioned for a post office, they indicated that "Big Bay" was the local name, not "Asman Bay". Big Bay Post Office was opened May 1963.
