Identified as Fort Steele (Post Office) in the 1953 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Fort Steele (community) 31 December 1982 on 82G/12. Form of name changed to Fort Steele (locality) 29 November 1984 (Ottawa file 203-2).
